How Awareness Breaks The Twin Flame Looping Cycle


Hi All,


Sometimes I feel like time goes by so quickly, I can hardly believe it has been two weeks since my last blog. The members of my Facebook group have been voting on which topic I was going to write about for you this week and today I want to talk about something that I think every single person on this journey needs to hear and of course in my usual style of zero sugar coating. 

Twin Flame traps.

These are the patterns, behaviours and ways of thinking that keep you stuck on this journey, sometimes for years, without you even realising that you have fallen into them. I see them every single day in the people I work with. I have been there myself. They are more common than you think and they are more costly than you realise.

I also know that some of you will read this and think, oh I know all of this already but do you really? Are you being honest with yourself? Can you be truly objective and free of bias on your own Twin Flame journey?

Of course, the good news is that once you can see a trap clearly, you can begin to step out of it and free yourself of your self made cage.  

Awareness is always where the real change begins.

Trap One, Misreading Signs and Synchronicities

Signs and synchronicities are a very real and beautiful part of the Twin Flame journey. The angel numbers, the songs, the dreams, the serendipity, they are the universe communicating with you and they deserve your attention.

Here is where the trap is though. When we are in the depths of longing on this journey, we can begin to see signs everywhere and attach a very specific meaning to all of them. Meanings that are almost always about our Twin Flame coming back, union being close or something significant about to happen between us.

Every 11:11 becomes a sign of reunion. Every song that comes on the radio becomes a message from them. Every dream becomes a visitation. Every number sequence becomes confirmation that union is imminent.

The trap is not in seeing the signs. The trap is in using the signs as a substitute for doing the inner work. It is very easy to spend your energy collecting signs and feeling comforted by them while the real growth that this journey is asking of you quietly goes undone.

Signs are meant to point you inward, not outward. The next time you see a synchronicity, rather than immediately thinking about what it means for your Twin Flame, ask yourself what it is saying to you about your own journey, your own energy and your own growth. That is where the real message lives.

Trap Two, Staying Stuck in Victim Mentality

This is one of the most common traps on the Twin Flame journey and also one of the most difficult to talk about, so I am going to address it with as much love as I possibly can.

The victim mentality on this journey sounds like this.

"Why is this happening to me?"
"They keep hurting me and I do not deserve this."
"Nothing ever changes no matter what I do."
"I am doing all the work and they are doing nothing."

I understand why this way of thinking develops. This journey is genuinely hard. The pain is real. The confusion is real. The exhaustion is real. When you are in the thick of it, it can feel impossible to see beyond what is being done to you.

Here is the truth though. The victim mentality, however understandable it is, keeps you completely stuck. Growth cannot happen from that place. Healing cannot happen from that place. Union most certainly cannot happen from that place.

The moment you shift from asking why is this happening to me, to asking what is this showing me and what can I learn from this, everything begins to change. That shift is not always easy. It is one of the hardest things this journey asks of you. It is also one of the most transformative.

You are not a victim of your Twin Flame journey. You are a student of it. There is a world of difference between those two things. 💛

Trap Three, Using the Twin Flame Label to Excuse Unhealthy Behaviour

This one I feel very strongly about and I want you to really hear it.

The Twin Flame framework is a beautiful and powerful way of understanding one of the most intense connections a soul can experience. It is not, however, a reason to accept behaviour that is genuinely harmful to your wellbeing.

I see this trap so often. Someone is being treated poorly, being ignored, being led on, being lied to or being kept as a secret, and when their friends or family raise concern the response is, you do not understand, they are my Twin Flame, it is supposed to be like this.

The Twin Flame journey is intense. It is challenging. It asks a great deal of both people. It is not, however, meant to be a space where you consistently abandon your self respect in the name of a spiritual connection.

Real Twin Flame love, even in its most challenging form, does not ask you to accept cruelty, dishonesty or deliberate emotional harm. If something feels genuinely wrong, if your gut is telling you that what you are experiencing goes beyond the normal challenges of this journey, please listen to that. The Twin Flame label does not override your right to be treated with dignity and respect.

Love yourself enough to know the difference. 💛

Trap Four, Becoming Addicted to the Journey Itself

This is a trap that not many people in the Twin Flame space talk about and I think it is time someone did.

The Twin Flame journey, with all of its intensity, its signs, its synchronicities, its highs and its lows, can become addictive. Not the love itself, but the journey. The drama of it. The constant emotional rollercoaster. The highs of a sign or a dream followed by the lows of silence and separation.

Over time some people become so deeply immersed in the journey that it becomes their entire identity. They spend hours every day reading about Twin Flames, watching videos, posting in groups and analysing every detail of their connection. The journey stops being something they are moving through and becomes something they are living inside of permanently.

When the journey becomes your whole world, it stops serving you and starts consuming you. Your life outside of it, your friendships, your passions, your purpose, your joy, begins to shrink and ironically, the more consumed you become by the journey, the further away real progress and real union becomes.

The Twin Flame journey is meant to be a part of your life, not the entirety of it. You are a whole person with a whole life and that life deserves your full presence and your full attention. 

Step back. Breathe. Reconnect with who you are outside of this connection. That is not betraying the journey. That is exactly what the journey is asking of you.

Trap Five, Comparing Your Journey to Others

With so many Twin Flame communities, groups, forums and social media accounts out there, it has never been easier to look at someone else's journey and compare it to your own and it has never been more damaging to do so.

Someone in a group shares that their Twin Flame returned after six months and suddenly you are questioning why yours has not returned after a year. 

Someone posts that they reached union by doing a specific meditation and suddenly you feel like you must be doing something wrong. 

Someone shares their signs and synchronicities and suddenly yours feel less significant by comparison.

Here is what I want you to understand. No two Twin Flame journeys are the same. Not even close. The timeline is different, the dynamic is different, the lessons are different and the path to union is different for every single person walking it.

Comparing your journey to someone else's is not just unhelpful, it is like comparing your fingerprint to someone else's and wondering why they do not match. They were never meant to match. Your journey is uniquely and perfectly yours and it is unfolding at exactly the pace your soul requires.
Stay in your own lane on this journey Carol Mary. That is where all the magic happens. 💛

Trap Six, Believing Everything You See on Their Social Media

This one right here is one of the most painful and most common traps, those social media assumptions. 

When we are in separation from our Twin Flame, their social media becomes a window that we cannot stop looking through and everything we see through that window becomes material for a story that our mind immediately begins to construct.

They posted a photo looking happy. They must be over me.
They liked someone else's picture. Something must be going on there.
They changed their profile picture the day after we spoke. What does that mean?
They have not posted anything in days, something terrible must have happened..
They posted a story but have not answered my message. They are ignoring me deliberately.
They have gone completely quiet. They are ghosting me.

On and on and on the stories go, each one more convincing than the last, each one sending you deeper into anxiety, deeper into fear and deeper into a spiral that has absolutely no grounding in reality. If you laughed awkwardly at this, it is definitely something you have done in the past or you are doing right now. 

Here is the truth that I want you to really sit with today. The story your mind tells you about what you see on their social media is almost never the truth. Your mind is not working from facts on this journey. It is working from fear, from longing and from a desperate need to make sense of something that feels completely out of your control.

A photo is just a photo. A like is just a like. Silence is just silence. Your mind takes these things and weaves them into a narrative that confirms its deepest fears, and you believe every word of it because in that moment it feels so convincing.

Here is what I teach the people I work with and what I want you to hear today. Do not trust your mind on this. Your mind will tell you stories. Trust your heart and trust your gut instead.

Your heart knows the truth of this connection in a way your mind never will. Your gut knows when something is genuinely wrong and when something is simply your fear talking. Learning to tell the difference between the two is one of the most important and most liberating skills you can develop on this journey.

When you catch yourself spiralling over something you have seen on their social media, stop. Take a breath. Ask yourself honestly, is this the truth or is this the story my mind has created from a place of fear? Then consciously choose to rewrite that story. Not with toxic positivity or blind hope, but with grounded, heart centred truth.

You do not know what is really going on in their world from a social media post. You never will. What you do know is what is going on in your own heart. Start there. 💛

Trap Seven, Putting Your Life on Hold

Trap Seven on the Twin Flame journey is putting your life on hold, not experiencing things, not hanging out with your loved ones, not traveling, not pursuing your own dreams because you are waiting on your Twin Flame to come back.

At first it can feel like devotion, like patience, like staying loyal to something meaningful but slowly your world starts to get smaller without you even realizing it.

You stop making plans because “what if they come back.”
You stop saying yes to opportunities because “what if it happens then.”
You stop fully showing up in your own life because part of you is still living in the waiting.


Before you know it, your life is happening around you instead of through you.

Here is what I want you to understand. Your life is not meant to be paused for anyone. Not for a person, not for a connection, not for a possibility of what might happen in the future.

You do not lose love by living your life. You lose yourself by not living it.

The Twin Flame journey is never meant to require you to disappear from your own story in order to stay connected to someone else’s.

Your dreams are not on hold. Your growth is not on hold. Your life is not on hold just because someone else is not currently present in it.

Stay in your own life. That is where you are meant to be. 💛

Trap Eight, Cutting Off Everything and Everyone Who Does Not Align or Understand


Trap Eight on the Twin Flame journey is cutting off everything and everyone who does not align or understand, distancing yourself from friends, family, communities, and even your old interests because they do not fit into the Twin Flame narrative you are now focused on.

At first it can feel like protection. It can feel like you are protecting your energy. It can feel like you are choosing alignment over distraction. It can feel like you are stepping into something more spiritual and selective.

Over time that sense of alignment starts to take over more of your world.

You stop sharing things because people do not understand.
You stop spending time with loved ones because they question what you believe.
You stop engaging with parts of life that once brought you joy because they do not fit the journey.


Life becomes narrower until almost everything revolves around one connection and the meaning you have attached to it.

Here is what I want you to understand. Real alignment does not isolate you from life. It does not require you to cut off the people who care about you or remove yourself from experiences that nourish you.

Discernment is healthy. Isolation is not.

Do not mistake what no longer serves you for what does not align or who does not understand.
There is a difference between choosing peace and slowly removing yourself from everything outside a single narrative.

You are not meant to lose your life in order to find your path.

Anything that requires you to disconnect from everything else in order to stay aligned is not guiding you toward expansion. It is guiding you toward limitation.

Stay open to life. Diversity is how you learn in life. Keeping your world diverse is so important because that is where healing actually breathes. 💛

You Do Not Have to Navigate This Alone

The Twin Flame traps I have talked about today are ones I see every single day in the people I work with, and they are also ones that I have personally experienced on my own journey. They are not a sign that you are weak or that you are doing the journey wrong. They are a sign that you are human and that you are navigating one of the most complex and transformative experiences a person can go through.

The difference between those who stay stuck in these traps and those who move through them is awareness and the right support around them. When you have guidance, you begin to see your patterns clearly. You begin to understand where they come from and how to shift them. You stop going in circles and start making real, meaningful progress.

I paused accepting new clients for a period of time so I could intentionally focus on the clients I was already working with, giving them more clarity, support, and space for real transformation. Some of those clients have now moved into union, and I am now in a place where I am ready to open my space again to new clients.

Making Sense of Intrusive Thoughts as a Twin Flame

Hi All,

I want to talk about something that I know everyone of you have or are experiencing on this journey, yet it is something that is rarely given the name it truly deserves.

You probably know it as that feeling of not being able to get them off your mind. Thinking about them constantly, even when you are trying to occupy yourself with something else. They just keep popping back up, uninvited. It can feel almost obsessive and that in itself can frighten you, making you wonder what is wrong with you. What you are actually experiencing is intrusive thoughts, and there is a profound difference between obsession and a mind that is under enormous emotional stress that simply does not know how to rest.

Now I want to be real with you here. Trying to turn off your Twin Flame journey is about as difficult as trying to turn off your inner critic. We all know how that goes. The moment you try to silence it, it gets louder. The moment you try to stop thinking about them, there they are again. So rather than telling you to simply stop focusing on the connection, what I want to do is show you how to redirect that focus in a way that actually works, a way that quiets the intrusive thoughts and channels your energy into something that genuinely moves you forward.

This is actually at the heart of the work I do with the people I coach. We do not gloss over anything. We talk about everything, the good, the bad and the downright ugly. No stone goes unturned. It is only when you truly look at what is going on beneath the surface that you can begin to stop focusing on the outcome and start working in a positive, grounded and healthy way towards union.

If you are dealing with intrusive thoughts right now, there is nothing wrong with you. You are not losing your mind. You are not broken. What you are experiencing is one of the most common aspects of the Twin Flame journey and today I want to give it the honest, open conversation it deserves.

What Intrusive Thoughts Actually Are

Intrusive thoughts on the Twin Flame journey can appear suddenly and without warning. They repeat. They spiral. They make you question yourself, question the connection and question everything you thought you knew.

You may find your mind creating scenarios like:

"I am not enough for them."
"They will never feel the same way I do."
"Something must be wrong with me if this is so hard."
"What if I never get to union?"

These thoughts can feel so real, so convincing and so relentless that they leave you utterly exhausted. The harder you try to push them away, the louder they seem to get.

Here is what I want you to understand. Intrusive thoughts are not facts. They are not predictions. They are not reflections of the connection itself. They are emotional responses created by fear, uncertainty and a nervous system that is under enormous stress. They reflect where you are emotionally right now, not where you are headed.


Why They Happen on the Twin Flame Journey

The Twin Flame journey activates your deepest emotional layers. It brings forward fears, feelings and wounds that you may not have even been fully aware of before this connection came into your life. Things like:

  • Fear of loss
  • Fear of abandonment
  • Fear of not being good enough
  • Fear of being too much
  • Fear of being forgotten
  • Fear of never finding this kind of love again
  • Fear that you are somehow to blame for the separation
  • Fear that if you let go, even for a moment, the connection will disappear entirely
  • Fear that you are the only one feeling this deeply
  • Conditioned beliefs and patterns from childhood that you thought you had long since left behind
  • Old wounds around forgiveness, of yourself and of them, that have never truly been resolved
  • A profound sense of isolation because what you feel simply cannot be put into words that the people around you can fully understand

Do any of those resonate with you? I would be willing to bet that more than one of them does.

Here is something else I want to address. The push and pull of this connection keeps your nervous system in a constant state of high alert. The hope, the silence, the hope again, the silence again. Your body and your mind do not get to rest. They are always waiting, always anticipating, always bracing for the next wave. Over time that level of emotional strain creates the perfect environment for intrusive thoughts to take hold and to thrive.

There is also something that does not get talked about enough and I want to name it here. The universe brings your Twin Flame into your life in the most profound and life changing way, and then it feels as though they are taken away. That experience is not just painful. It is grief. Real, raw, legitimate grief. Grieving someone who is still alive, someone you may still be in contact with, is one of the most confusing and isolating forms of loss there is. Please give yourself permission to acknowledge that grief rather than pushing it aside in the name of staying positive and trusting the process.

One of the things that makes all of this so much harder is the loss of control. You cannot make them reach out. You cannot speed up their growth. You cannot force the timing. For someone who feels as deeply as you do, that loss of control is one of the most uncomfortable and disorienting places to sit. The mind does what minds do. It tries to regain control the only way it knows how, by thinking, analysing, replaying and imagining every possible outcome. That is where the intrusive thought cycle truly begins.

When your peace becomes entirely dependent on what your Twin Flame does or does not do, emotional dependency takes hold quietly and gradually. Your self worth can take a significant hit during this time too, until you find yourself questioning whether you are truly worthy of the love and union you are longing for. That is the intrusive thought talking, not the truth of who you are.

When your mind does not feel safe, it tries to regain control by creating thought loops, preparing you for every possible painful outcome it can imagine. It thinks it is protecting you. What it is actually doing is keeping you trapped in a cycle of fear and overthinking that drains you completely.

The intensity of this connection brings everything that has ever been unhealed within you right to the surface. That is uncomfortable, yet it is also purposeful. It is showing you exactly where your healing is needed most, and that is where the real work of this journey begins.


The Mental Health Side of This Journey

The Twin Flame journey is one of the most emotionally intense experiences a person can go through. While it is deeply spiritual, it is also deeply human. Your mind and your nervous system are not separate from your journey. They are part of it.

Intrusive thoughts, anxiety, emotional spirals, difficulty sleeping, loss of appetite, withdrawing from your everyday life, these are not just spiritual symptoms. They are signs that your mental and emotional health needs your attention and your care, just as much as your soul does.
There is absolutely no shame in acknowledging that. Acknowledging it is one of the bravest and most self loving things you can do on this journey.

If your intrusive thoughts are significantly impacting your daily life, your ability to function, your sleep, your work or your relationships, please do not suffer in silence. Reaching out to a qualified relationship coach or a mental health professional alongside your spiritual support is not a sign of weakness. It does not mean you are doing the journey wrong. It means you are taking care of the whole of you, and that is exactly what this journey is asking you to do. I am here if you need that support, and I will always encourage you to seek professional mental health support too when it is needed, because your wellbeing matters above everything else on this journey.
The Twin Flame journey asks you to heal. Sometimes that healing needs the right support around it, someone who truly understands this journey and can help you navigate it in a way that is grounded, healthy and sustainable.

I always say that reuniting comes from within, and part of that inner work is making sure that you are mentally and emotionally well enough to show up for yourself, for your healing and ultimately for your union.

Please take care of your whole self on this journey. The spiritual and the human. Both matter enormously. 💛

What Actually Helps, Where to Start

Not every tool here will resonate with every person and that is perfectly okay. Read through all of these and notice which ones your gut responds to. Start there. You do not have to do all of them. You just have to find the one that feels right for you today, and that is enough.

When intrusive thoughts hit hard, these are your immediate pattern interrupters, the things you can reach for in the moment to stop the spiral before it fully takes hold.
  • Stop going down the rabbit hole. When intrusive thoughts are at their peak, stepping into online forums, scrolling through your Twin Flame's social media or reading other people's timelines will feed the thoughts, not calm them. Please do not seek reassurance by googling your situation over and over again either. Every time you do that you are actually telling your nervous system that there is genuinely something to be worried about. The reassurance feels good for a moment and then the anxiety returns stronger than before. Step away from the screen.
  • Do not reach out to your Twin Flame when you are in this headspace. I say this with so much love, yet communicating from a place of fear and intrusive thinking is never going to bring you the outcome you are hoping for. Come back to yourself first.
  • Change your physical position the moment a spiral starts. Stand up if you are sitting, go to a different room, splash cold water on your face. Your mind and body are deeply connected and physically interrupting the pattern can stop the thought spiral in its tracks before it fully takes hold. Do not underestimate how powerful this simple shift can be.
  • Get out of your head and into your body. Go outside. Put your feet on the grass. Take a walk. Breathe slowly and deliberately. Grounding yourself physically is one of the fastest ways to bring your nervous system back to a place of safety.
  • Try naming the thought out loud. Actually speaking the intrusive thought out loud in a calm, matter of fact tone can immediately strip it of its intensity. There is something about hearing it outside of your head that makes it feel far less catastrophic than it did when it was spinning around inside your mind. Try it and see how quickly it loses its grip on you.

Going a Little Deeper

Once you have interrupted the immediate spiral, these practices invite you to go a little further. They require a little more time and intention, yet they are where some of the most meaningful shifts begin to happen.
  • Speak to yourself as you would speak to a friend. When an intrusive thought tells you that you are not enough or that it will never work out, pause and ask yourself honestly, would I say this to my best friend if she came to me with the same fear? The answer is almost always no. You would hold her, reassure her and remind her of her worth. You deserve that same gentleness from yourself.
  • Try setting a worry window. Instead of trying to suppress intrusive thoughts all day long, designate a specific ten minute window each day where you allow yourself to think them fully. Outside of that window you consciously and gently redirect your focus. This teaches your mind that the thoughts have a place, yet that place is contained and within your control rather than spilling into every corner of your day.
  • Notice the pattern of when your intrusive thoughts hit. They rarely arrive randomly. They tend to peak at specific times, late at night, during quiet moments, when you are tired or when you have been triggered by something. Noticing your own personal pattern gives you the power to prepare for those windows rather than being caught completely off guard by them every single time.
  • Write it down. Journaling is one of the most underrated tools on this journey. When you take the thoughts out of your head and put them onto paper, they lose a great deal of their power. Rather than just journaling about your Twin Flame, try writing directly to the intrusive thought itself. Ask it what it is really trying to tell you. What fear is sitting underneath it? What wound is it pointing to? This transforms the thought from something that feels like an enemy into something that is actually a messenger, and that shift alone can be deeply healing.

When You Are Ready to Truly Let Go

This is the deepest layer of the work and it is also the most transformative. These are not quick fixes. They are practices that, over time, create a genuine and lasting shift in how you experience this journey.
  • Create a go to reset. Have something specific that signals to your mind and body that you are consciously choosing to shift your energy. It could be making a cup of tea slowly and mindfully, lighting a candle, putting on a song that lifts you or stepping outside for five minutes of fresh air. The consistency of coming back to the same thing is what makes it powerful over time. Your mind begins to associate it with safety and calm, and that association becomes something you can reach for whenever you need it most.
  • Go somewhere that holds a happy memory of you both. This is something I did myself on my own journey and it is something I have never forgotten. I went to one of our favourite places, alone, and I sat there in the memory of what we had shared in that spot. I allowed myself to feel it fully. I spoke out loud and I said that I was done, that I was letting go, not of him, not of the connection, yet of the desperate grip I had on the outcome. I stopped needing it to look a certain way or happen on a certain timeline. Something shifted in me that day that I cannot fully put into words. It was the moment I truly surrendered to what was meant to be, and when you reach that place of genuine surrender, not giving up, not walking away, simply releasing your grip on how and when, everything begins to change. That is what letting go of the outcome truly means, and it is one of the most powerful shifts you will ever make on this journey.

You Do Not Have to Do This Alone

One of the things I see time and time again is people trying to navigate the intensity of intrusive thoughts completely on their own, going in circles, getting more exhausted and more stuck with every passing week.

Having the right support around you changes everything. When you have guidance, you stop going in circles. You begin to understand your patterns, where they come from and how to shift them. You make real, meaningful progress rather than simply surviving from one emotional wave to the next.
